23 Aug A LOT OF THE RURAL COMMUNITIES IN MISSION’S FOOTPRINT ARE CONCERNED THE SALE COULD LEAD TO CLOSURE OR FURTHER CUTS OF SERVICE AT THEIR FACILITIES (LIKE THE CLOSURE OF THE LABOR & DELIVERY UNIT AT ANGEL). DOES MISSION BELIEVE THIS TRUST COULD PROVIDE FUNDS THAT WOULD PREVENT SUCH CUTS OR CLOSURES?
While it’s understandable that there are concerns from anyone who faces change or uncertainty, the truth is that every entity within Mission Health will have very significant protections that it lacks today under the contemplated transaction with HCA Healthcare. Those safeguards include protections against both program and facility closures. In addition, the mission of the Dogwood Health Trust will be to dramatically improve the health and well-being of all people and communities of Western North Carolina. To that end, its focus will be to analyze, understand and address core social determinants of health and well-being. Funding could be used to meet healthcare needs, but also for housing, education, transportation, healthy food and much more.
